Goal 5 Gender Equality
Goal 10 Reduced Inequalities
Globally there are 1.7 billion adults in the world who do not have a bank account. Pakistan makes up about 6% of this figure, and of the estimated 100 million unbanked people in Pakistan, the majority are women. In fact, approximately 93% of all Pakistani females do not have bank accounts.
Despite these alarming figures, a glimmer of hope existed due to the fact that 10% of all unbanked adults do have online access, either through a smartphone or computer. Mobile operator Jazz, part of the Veon Group, recognized this opportunity and in 2016 launched JazzCash, a mobile money service that has since played a key role in promoting female digital inclusion in Pakistan.
Join #CaseForChange as we visit Pakistan to meet some of the 7 million active users of JazzCash and discover the huge differences it is making to their lives, not only benefitting women on an individual basis but also impacting the broader issue of gender inequality in the country.
